1. I'm going home for the weekend tonight!! Even though the weather here in South Bend has perked up nicely in the last couple of days (on my drive in to work this morning, it was already 60 degrees!), I'm absolutely over the moon about going home to enjoy some warm(er) weather and, even more importantly, to see my family and old friends.
2. The reason for my trip is an exceedingly happy one. One of my dearest high school friends is getting married tomorrow, so I'm flying down for the weekend. Here's a vintage pic of our group (from our Senior Banquet):
The lovely Bride-to-Be is the one in pink (4th from either side). She's the fourth of our group to marry (the first three being the left-most two and myself (3rd from right)). I am SO excited for her. The prospective groom is a great guy, and I'm beyond thrilled for the two of them. Yay, marriage!3. I'd wanted to write a post about the sartorial issues raised in these two articles, but I can't really improve much on what they said. Here's my favorite line from the George Will piece (2nd link):
"This is not complicated. For men, sartorial good taste can be reduced to one rule: If Fred Astaire would not have worn it, don't wear it. For women, substitute Grace Kelly."Obviously, I'm not the best ever at heeding this advice, but I think it's generally very sound. Hopefully at some point I'll be able to scrape my thoughts on this together into a longer and more-coherent post, but I wanted to go ahead and share those links now.
4. As I mentioned above, Spring has finallyfinallyfinally arrived in South Bend. Everything is blossoming (which means I'm sneezing nonstop, but still). I don't think I truly appreciated leaves coming back to trees before this year. It's been a huge relief to see the world warm up and all the plants come back to life. My mood is improved a thousandfold.
5. Have I told you I'm flying home tonight? It's pretty much all I can think about. Good thing things have been quiet at work this week.
6. I'm very sad that Paul won't be able to come with me for the weekend. His exams start next week, and he's in the throes of writing a big paper for one of his classes, so he doesn't have time to jet off for a weekend of fun. He's probably looking forward to being able to work without noise from all my terrible tv shows bothering him, though.
7. Sporcle is my new favorite internet pastime. It's a collection of terrifically amusing quizzes, billed as "mentally stimulating diversions." Very entertaining.
