Belated "Back to the Arctic" Edition
1. On the way back up from home last Sunday, we stopped in Bardstown, KY to see the first cathedral west of the Alleghenies. When it was founded in 1808, the Diocese of Bardstown included everything between the mountains and the Mississippi. The Diocese of Tennessee (now those of Nashville, Memphis, and Knoxville) was carved out of the Diocese of Bardstown, so this was a very neat visit for us.
2. Last week the brand-new Eck Hall of Law opened. The building is absolutely beautiful. I was able to get everything unpacked much more quickly than I thought I would, which was nice (that's the upside to being new--not as much stuff as everyone else). I'm all settled in, and my professors are almost all unpacked. It took all week, but I think I know pretty much where everything is now (famous last words?). I hope to have pictures of my new space soon.
3. Classes for this semester start tomorrow. I'm excited for all the students to come back and see the new space. Tomorrow promises to be very hectic, with everyone finding their classrooms and so forth, especially since the carpenters and other workers are still scurrying around and finishing everything. Most of the classrooms are done, except the courtroom, which should get finished in just a week or two. It will be several more months before the chapel is finished, but since Fr. Coughlin is gone for the semester, I guess it doesn't make much difference.
4. We took our Christmas decorations down today. I was very impressed that our tree lasted so long (Paul's watering system for while we were gone was a great success). Our living room looks terribly bear now.
5. I still need to blog about our visit home, I know. I have lots of pictures to share from our Christmas in Dixie. Hopefully I'll get them all posted this week.
6. One of the best things about going home is coming back with a cooler full of good food. Yay for beef and all kinds of veggies from Nanny's freezer!
7. Other fun stuff we brought from home: Nanny's old bread maker and food processor. I've made one loaf of bread in the bread maker--a garlic-herb that is very, very tasty. I have all kinds of plans for the bread maker and the food processor (including, with the food processor, making some homemade nut butters--I don't like peanut butter, but I'm excited about trying out making some different kinds).

I LOVE Bardstown! We made a similar visit, including a stop at the Catholic college and school.
After walking those picturesque downtown streets, I was ready to buy a cottage and settle there for life!
