7 Quick Takes Friday

...Icicle Edition

1. I am the worst blogger ever. I have so many things to post about (including--STILL--Christmas back home, plus some really yummy foodstuffs I've made recently). Soon.

2. It's NEGATIVE NINETEEN degrees Fahrenheit right now in beautiful South Bend, IN. The wind chill is -36. Do you know how cold that is? I'll tell you: it's so cold, that when your eyes tear up (due to the brutality of the cold on the walk in from your car), the tears actually freeze on your eyelashes/in the corners of your eyes. True story.

3. I have very little sympathy for folks back home who are whining about single digits. I'm pretty sure I'll dance a jig when it gets back above zero.

4. Is all this talk of how awful the weather is as tedious to read as it is to write? I apologize. It's basically the worst thing I've ever experienced in my entire life, though. So I should probably spend more time concentrating on how blessed/spoiled I've been up to this point, not how TERRIBLE everything is for the 15 minutes total I'm outside per day, huh?

5. Last Sunday, Paul and I went to Mass at St. Adalbert's, since the extraordinary form Mass we usually attend hadn't started back for the semester yet. It's a really beautiful church, with a very strong Polish heritage. We particularly enjoyed the Christmas carol to the shepherds (even though we had to ask the lady sitting behind us what had been sung). Less than enjoyable? Father's ORANGE vestments. Yeah, I don't know either. They were weird and mildly unsettling.

6. One more weather tidbit (last one, I promise): One of the profs I sit near just came out of his office to alert me to the fact that our current temperature (NEGATIVE NINETEEN, in case you forgot) is farther away from the freezing point than 80 degrees is. Mind boggling.

7. For number seven, here's a pic of me with two of my favoritest girls from our trip to the Yazoo brewery in Nashville:

Such a good time -- I highly recommend that everyone in town go down there and take the brewery tour. If you can do so after enjoying a sampler platter of the beers currently on tap with some very dear friends, all the better.

Be sure to check in with Jen here to see everyone else's Quick Takes for the week!

Thanks, Heather! I do too. It is supposed to. It's up to -4 right now (it's been sunny all day, which is a nice change from the normal, overcast skies here), and tomorrow it's supposed to get up to 21. Sadly, 21 will feel AWESOME after the last few days.
