7 Quick Takes Friday

Above Freezing (!!) Edition
Jennifer, who hosts the weekly 7 Quick Takes meme, designed this new logo. Isn't it cute?

1. Today is the second day in a row that we've had above-freezing temperatures. I don't think I need to tell you how sick it is that that excites me. But it does. I'm very excited.

2. We have an Open House to celebrate the new law school building this afternoon. This means snacks from ND Catering, which means YUM. I'm very excited about that, too.

3. I have a super-yummy dish for which I want to share the recipe. I've wanted to post it for two weeks, but I can never seem to remember it when I'm at home, and the computer at home is where the pictures are (yes, I took pictures. Just of the finished product, but still. Lookit me being a good food blogger). I'll get to it soon, promise. I also have pictures of the food from a little get together we had last weekend, and some shots of my kitchen, which I'll share as soon as I remember to upload them.

4. I still haven't said anything on here about the new TN House Puppet Show. That's because I'm still just too mad. (For the non-Tennesseans, this is a pretty good round-up of initial reactions around the web.) Not surprised, though, really. I think it was an absolutely brilliant political move by the Dem caucus. And I think (hope, at the very least) exactly the same thing will happen to PuppetSpeaker Williams as happened to a certain former Senator of the same surname, also from East TN.

5. I miss the Legislature SO much. I watched the circus (and the election of Constitutional Officers two days later) via feed on the new-and-improved TNGA website, and wished so much that I could be there. I love my job here, but I would trade it for a job back there in a heartbeat. I'm incredibly jealous of the members of my intern class who are working there. (Not to mention, a job for the TNGA would mean NO MORE SOUTH BEND WINTER!) For some reason, though, the husband isn't keen on transferring to Vandy...

6. About the Inauguration, just two things: first, obviously I think it was dumb that so much money was spent on the event, but whatever. They didn't ask me. Second, I loveloveloved the First Lady's dress (the yellow one with the coat for the swearing-in, not the white one-shouldered monstrosity for the ball). That's pretty much it. As I've long said, I (still) care more about getting Jimmy Naifeh out of the Speaker's Chair (/off the Speaker's marionette strings) than who is president.

7. Going back to the theme from #1 and #2, I'm pretty excited about our prospects for taking a vacation this summer. I checked the other day, and I have almost a full week of vacation time accrued already. I'm pretty excited about maybe getting to go home for a bit this summer (depending on Paul's ability to take time off, it may just be for a long weekend instead of a more extended trip, but that would be better than nothing).

Be sure to go visit Jennifer and see everyone else's Quick Takes!
